Okay, I admit I was a dumbass and fogort about spinoff games such as Spinball and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (even though Spinball didn't really have much of a story, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean machine was actually just Puyo Puyo remade for American audiences because Sonic was more well known in the US). Also, I'm sorry I didn't realize you were included Genesis add-ons, like Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix, even though those games are on he Sega CD and the Sega 32X, which are connected but still separate entities from the Genesis. But you still can't just say Later games aren't cannon because they strayed too far from original Sonic. First of all, as far as I can tell, Sonic still runs fast, does a lot of platforming, collects rings, and saves the world from Dr. Eggman, or at least stops whatever plan Dr. Eggman had made. Secondly, things change, whether you like it or not. Mario changed, Zelda changed, every classic game was changed for newer technology and audiences. And all of the games in those franchises are considered cannon. Why is newer Sonic not cannon? Because it changed from the Genesis? That makes no sense. Change is inevitable. And the only new Sonic games fans have downright hated are 06, Unleashed, Shadow, and the Black Knight. Everything else, from what I've seen, have had generally positive reviews, and at the very least, mixed reviews. Some new Sonic games that have been very well received are both Adventures, Colors, Generations, and the Rush games. So, if these games are essentially good, how can being too different than the originals be bad? All Sonic games are part of the cannon, old and new. Just like old and new Mario games are cannon, old and new Zelda games are cannon, etc., not just the old.
